After a great come back from last three weeks, the air of excitement was mixed along with teary moments as Chuck productions marks an end... (which all of Chucksters are stocking up all the kleenex as we say goodbye to the casts & the set) But that wasn't the end yet, eight episodes left, with two hours of Chuck Finale on January 27th. Amidst that concern & teary moment: the producers, the casts & the crew are still proving how competent they are, by demonstrating it to us in this week Chuck versus Hack Off
One of the great addition this episode was having Zachary Levi, the lead actor who plays Chuck. Another chance for him after he directs one of the episode in season three, another one in season four & the latest one in this week's episode. I have to say he has blown my mind again, not only is his performance epic, but also his directing skills... The dialogues are not weak, the acting goes natural, it was an enjoyable moment as we see how Chuck infiltrates The Collective, Jeff & Morgan working together in order to bring Lester back to his sense, & subplot on Verbanski's feeling for Casey. Zac did a great job on this episodes, he offers a faithful performance as a nerd-slash-spy once again, and also making this episode one of the most memorable moments in Chuck run.
Along with the main plot, the episode this week did a great job by resolving all the cliffhangers last episode, with Casey arrested for murder, and Jeff pretty much got the similar charge as he tries to bring his friend to being a "subordinate". As we all questions what's going to happen next, the episode opens with Charah visiting Casey, and Jeff & Morgan tries to have a talk with Lester. It was pretty much normal conversations... except the part where Casey grudgingly said "I don't run from the law, I AM the law", and Lester facing with either no poison or poison Jeff deal. And just as we thought it was a bit decent, the producers surprises with a sudden appearance of Clyde Decker (filling the role as a lead villain this season... awfully too evil) who offers them Casey in order for a chip, the episode brings us to "the Routine" along with the guest stars of this week's episode: Danny Pudi & Carrie Anne Moss and the Jeffsters plot.
The Routine was pretty much my favorite scenes anyway, because it bring us a closer look & reminding that even though he opens a spy company, his hearts & soul are still being nerd & geek anyway And who could have forget the scene with the "Chardonnay"? This week has taken us a closer look on what happen before, that he was a hacker too. And it's always nice to see him doing all the nerds & geeks thing, after we see him kicking, chopping, tranq, punch & any other method to bring down so many bad guy. That was so satisfied, and as Sarah had remarked: "that's creative"... "The Piranha's" face as he delves back more to the world of Telix Script. That moment rocks, another thumbs up for returning back to the roots.
Along with the Routine was another moment that everybody seems to have enjoy it. And that it would be a crime against awesomeness itself not to include this... The scene when Charah broke into a compound of... a church of eternal wind. Well, the scene makes me loving Schwedak even more for this scene... even though we've seen that before in promo & promotional picture. Seeing on screen was... quite blessed. Another point I wanna praise was the combat & fighting scenes, even though we see it every week... but this week episode is exceptionally awesome, with a joint fighting scene between Carrie Anne Moss & Yvonne Strahovski, I have to say that looks swift... and dangerous at the same time.
Which brings me to the guest star of this this week, Carrie Anne Moss & Danny Pudi. First, I wanna talk about Carrie, whom we saw her on the first appearance of the second episode this season, and makes her last appearance on third episode this season. To be honest, for those two episodes, her performance wasn't that strong & only thing she was play was a woman in a office who happens to Casey's love interest. But then this week had completely change my mind, it seems that Gertrude Verbanski is now employing a straight approach to Casey (by disguising as guard, of course) now changes everything. Before this episode, it appears only three woman does Casey was involve in, Ilsa & Carina from the first season & Catherine McHugh from third season. But Gertrude character is the first real opportunity for us to explore the love life of well... the ex-colonel. Even though their love plot was a bit decent throughout her first two appearance, this episode changes every thought around her! Carrie combines the toughness of a life as a spy along with Gertrude personal feelings for Casey very well, as I could say a perfect factor, and that seems to be a glimpse of hope for Casey love life after all. Another point is how she, at first is trying to resist the friendship Sarah was offering to her, though being early neglected by Gertrude herself in which she eventually proofs to be a perfect replacement for Casey this episode. Carrie slowly reveals a piece of vulnerability inside Gertrude and allow audience to explore this very Gertrude Verbanski, and yes I am extremely impress with a final scene when Gertrude finally learns to embrace the feeling of vulnerability and use it as a motivation to retrieve the "Omen" in order to free Casey. Yes, that is Casey's romance finest hour.
The second point about guest star was Danny Pudi, guest stars from Community who joins the cast as Lester's "replacement", Morgan attempt of trying to convince Lester & mend the broken Jeffster altogether once again. Even though his appearance was short, but it proof to be eventful & surprisingly had an impact over Jeffster plot. Pudi's acting still, even was only some two or three minutes: the moment proof to be memorable with Pudi's character coming out from nowhere. And of course, manage to sing a song... and sing it in French! So Pudi's character not only does he mended the Jeffster broken relationship, but leave a memorable moment... in exchange for iPad! So even that wasn't a crossover, but having him joining the casts was a great idea anyway. Pudi deliver his line swiftly... and sing his song very well.
And last but not least is a Chuck & Sarah marriage life's plot! This episode kicks off, of course with Chuck Bartowski filled with guilt after Casey being arrested, Chuck torns with guilt now begin to question the place of Carmichael Industries in spy business, along Sarah's assistance which help them to locate Colin Davis & The Omen. Even though their marriage life appears to still in a very excellent love & joy condition. The episode this week, instead focus on another aspect of Chuck & Sarah marriage life: of how they are trying to adjust with such rapid changes throughout from last season finale up to this week's episode. And such question were reinforce more when Sarah & Gertrude was having a "chat" while shooting & fighting the bad guys, and Chuck while infiltrating the Collective headquarter & realize how much his skill for all the computers & hacking are still good! (I'm sure you won't forget how he disarm the bomb with a porn website though). As the episode moves on, you start seeing Chuck questioning himself more on whether his place for the "real" life, which Chuck while waiting with Decker, begins the discussion of that question. And as you could see from the following scene, Sarah's face wasn't please. Because of another question was on Sarah's head too: "what will I do?".. Before the episode ends with Chuck understanding the final answer of the question, that they have the best spies than they ever been. Which reminds me how much I absolutely love how the producers are also giving us another aspect of Chuck & Sarah's marriage, that even though they were plague with problems, troubles, bad guys & being there to save the day. In the end, like Chuck had remarked "is the love still there?", and yes, the Charah's love is still there.
And of course, any review can't be complete without a cons, despite how much I hate to say: but I have to remain faithful to the principle anyway but I will make it short, because it is technically perfect itself. But one thing that the producer was the role of Casey in this aside from kissing Gertrude in the storage. Though in the end, the producer chose chose the right moment to introduce him in the scene where Lester technically rocks the moment, by removing the "plug" literally. And yes, Lester Patel save the day this time!
Finally even we know this great show will come to an end, fear nothing. For "one must love fiercely, in order to die a broken heart", yes fiercely we have love, cherish & promise to be there on screen every Monday & Friday, so no regrets on what had happen. And yes, like Joshua Gomez had said, "We Open At The Close", and yes, that was an awesome blast opening...
Finally, someone for Casey!

"That's your rival, Lester! Watch him out"

The naked truth!
